Immigration Practitioner & Independent Researcher

Elizabeth Wambui is an immigration practitioner, independent researcher, and founder of Millennia Immigration Consultancy in Kenya. She holds a degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, complemented by postgraduate training in governance and public policy. Her professional and research work bridges theoretical debates on migration policy with the practical realities of immigration administration and border governance.

Her research is informed by hands-on experience serving at Kenya’s State Department of Immigration, providing a critical perspective on identity documentation, civil registration, document security, border administration, and state sovereignty. Her broader research interests include international migration, African mobility, migration governance, immigration and border governance, identity documentation, citizenship and belonging, forced migration and deportation, migration and inequality, international relations, and African regional integration and free movement.

Her current research focuses particularly on identity documentation and the unequal politics of belonging, examining how states and institutions determine who is recognized, documented, protected, and permitted to move, and how structural inequalities shape access to global mobility for African citizens. Through her work, she seeks to connect migration scholarship with the lived and administrative realities of mobility, particularly across Africa.
